Logo untuk Olimpiade 2016 di Rio ini diresmikan Jumat hanya beberapa jam sebelum acara Tahun Baru di pantai Copacabana tepat sebelum tengah malam yang dihadiri lebih dari 1 juta orang.
Dalam logo tersebut, terdapat tiga sosok manusia berwarna oranye, hijau dan biru yang saling bergandengan tangan dan seperti sedang menari.
“Logo untuk Rio 2016 mengirim pesan tentang gairah dan transformasi. Gairah warga Carioca (sebutan warga Rio) dan Brasil dalam hal olahraga dan perayaan,” ujar Presiden Panitia Rio 2016, Carlos Nuzman, seperti dikutip ESPN.
“Dan juga transformasi yang dibawa Olimpiade untuk Rio dan Brasil,” tukas Nuzman.
penyelenggara Olimpiade mengatakan Rio 2016 mereka ciptakan untuk mencerminkan budaya kota dan merupakan keajaiban alam dan penduduk yang menyenagkan. Penyelenggara mengatakan logo didasarkan pada empat pilar: yaitu penularan energi, keberagaman yang harmonis, alam yang riang dan semangat Olimpiade.
Saat kontes pembuatan logo ini dibuka, ada sekitar 140 agensi yang berpartisipasi, namun kemudian disaring hingga ada delapan saja. Akhirnya, sebuah tim yang berisi 15 orang dari berbagai disiplin dan anggota panitia penyelenggara Rio 2016 memilih desain yang dibuat oleh sebuah agensi lokal, Tatil.
Acara perkenalan logo ini juga dihadiri oleh Presiden IOC Jacques Rogge yang beberapa hari sebelumnya menyempatkan meninjau persiapan Rio.
“Saya ingin mengucapkan selamat kepada tim dari Rio yang desainnya terpilih sebagai logo Rio 2016. Logo yang sangat inovatif dan kreatif. Itu sangat mencerminkan visi Rio dan Brasil terhadap Olimpiade,” pungkas Rogge.
